1. MUCHALINDA LAKE

Located to the right of Mahabodhi Temple lies the beautiful Muchalinda Lake in Bodhgaya. Also known as the “Lotus Pond,” the lake is surrounded by lush greenery and peaceful atmosphere.

 A beautiful statue of meditating Lord Buddha sitting on a snake coil protected by its hood is a major attraction here, which is placed at the center.

It is believed that during Buddha’s sixth week of meditation, a huge storm broke out here while Buddha was meditating. It was then that Muchalinda came out from his abode beneath the lake to protect Lord Buddha from the uproar of the storm.

2.GRIDDHAKUTA PEAK

Griddhakuta peak, popularly known as the Vulture Peak was the Buddha's favourite retreat in Rajagaha  and the spot for many of his discourses. 

Located in Rangir, the peak is mentioned in Buddhist texts and is known to have been frequented by Lord Buddha and his disciples for both training and retreat. One can explore the place for is religious and historical significance.

3.Rajgir Hot Springs

Hot springs in Rajgir are famous tourist spots.Located at the foot of Vaibhava Hills, the springs get their water from Satpura,which passes behind Saptaparni Caves. It is believed that Lord Buddha and Mahavira had bathed in these hot springs.  

4.BODHI TREE

The Bodhi tree at the Mahabodhi Temple is called the Sri Maha Bodhi. Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment (bodhi) while meditating underneath a Ficus religiosa. According to Buddhist texts, the Buddha meditated without moving from his seat for seven weeks (49 days) under this tree. A shrine called Animisalocana cetiya, was later erected on the spot where he sat.The celebrated Bodhi tree still exists, but is very much decayed; one large stem, with three branches to the westward, is still green, but the other branches are barkless and rotten.

5.NALANDA UNIVERSITY

Nalanda University (also known as Nalanda International University) is an international and research-intensive university located in Rajgir, near Nalanda, India, which was established by an Act of Parliament to emulate the famous Nalanda of ancient India. The original university, widely considered to be the greatest of all ancient monasteries and the world's first residential institution, functioned for over 800 years from around 400 AD, long before University of Oxford, University of Cambridge or Harvard University came into existence. Nalanda University at its peak housed 10,000 students from all across Asia. Some famous personalities associated with the original university include Lord Buddha, who preached at Rajgir centuries earlier, and the legendary Buddhist master Atiśa. The university began its first academic session on September 1, 2014 with 15 students including five women.

These rooms were actually used by monks to stay and meditate.

Archeologists have discovered many statues and interesting things used by these ancient monks, providing a glimpse of history of this area.
